The FTC has for the last few years been investigating Herbalife, over allegations of operating a pyramid scheme. Herbalife is a nutritional supplement company and had been investigated for two years before the FTC brought it to a close. The company had been operating a scheme that would cause hundreds of people lose their money (Bomey & McCoy, 2016).
During the investigation, the company had started a scheme where it sought after sales persons who would ideally be rolled into a sales project. Hundreds of persons that joined the company were promised that they would reap huge benefits in profits (Bomey & McCoy, 2016). Ideally, the sales persons were required to recruit other persons who would in turn operate under them in a scheme that would apparently, help them share in the profits that were made in the network of sales persons at the company.
