Introduction
Positive climate feedback is a form of climate feedback in which an initial change in the climate triggers a subsequent change that amplifies the consequences of the first change, effectively amplifying the initial effect. Positive climate feedbacks are a kind of positive feedback that is frequently addressed in relation to climate change. Moreover, positive climate feedback amplifies certain initial changes, similar to how money in a savings account receives interest and compounding to gain more money. For example, some initial warming is followed by more warmth caused by a different mechanism, which leads to even more warming.
Although there are negative climatic feedbacks as well, the positive feedback cycles are so alarming. Positive feedback loops speed up climate change as temperatures rise, resulting in major non-linear effects. Positive feedback may lead to a minor change in the climate, resulting in a large shift in the general climate (Dufresne & Monfray, 2018). On the other hand, negative feedback reduces the impact of any initial climate change by operating in the reverse direction, restoring the system to its original state. Positive feedback loops are being observed and anticipated, which is alarming. It's worth noting that the various forms of positive feedback result in varying degrees of total warming. Listed below are a handful of the climate-threatening cycles.
Ocean warming is a good illustration of a possible positive feedback mechanism. The seas function as a large CO2 sink by absorbing CO2 into the water surface. The potential for global warming increases as CO2 levels rise. The water temperature should rise in tandem with the ambient temperature. As temperatures rise, the capacity of the ocean to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere declines. As a result, increased CO2 levels in the atmosphere may have unfavorable consequences, exacerbating the problem.
