Essay Instructions:

Part 1: First find a link to a short form of art writing and post it to our discussion page. Then, in a brief discussion post, use your own words to explain to us what type of art writing you have posted. Who is the author’s intended audience? Where is the author being purely informative and where does he or she try to make a larger claim or argument? Is there a thesis or a conclusion? Which lines stand out to you and why? Do you like this form of writing? Do you agree with what the author is trying to accomplish?
Part 2:Tell the class about your encounters with any form of art writing that you find memorable. Are there any authors or poets that you think write beautifully about art? Have you ever encountered art writing in an unexpected place, such as a city bus or science journal? When you go to a museum, do you generally read the brochures and wall texts or do you prefer to view art without reading its textual support?
