1 The album ‘fresh fruit and rotting vegetables launched the career of the dead Kennedys band. Jello and East Ray met in 1978 and spear headed what would be launched two years later. This was an error of musical terrorism and they played a big part in creating what would eventually be known as ‘hardcore punk’ The music is fast paced with a high tempo that pierces through the melody delivering absurd and abstract images to the listener in a style that could only be described as ‘freewheeling’ hardcore was only a word used to describe their ideological resoluteness than a musical style. It was meant as a transformative power over their lives, which was greater than the confines of headlines and scandal doing away with outdated past and shaping their future.
Dead Kennedys band was among the most influential in the history of punk rock. They managed a fine balance of satire, twisted humour, political rants and aggression which paved way for many artists to follow. Their production and packaging were exceptional. Album covers specialized in hidden meanings that were easy to miss in the frenzy of the finer details like burning a police car but making the flames a bright orange. This was later on printed on black and white making the whole thing look like it was a gas station ablaze. With this debut album, the Dead Kennedys marked their place in history as one of the finest bands to ever play under the hardcore flag.
