ASL Discourse
discourse analysis is an interdisciplinary field of social inquiry that has recently come to its own right. It is having a conversation everywhere, which is the most natural thing in the world. There have categories of discourse structure that are monologic as in lectures and narratives and dialogic as in conversion and interview.
There are different methodological approaches to discourse analysis: Speech acts theory, Interactional sociolinguistics, Ethnography of communication, Pragmatics, Conversation Analysis, and variation analysis.
Features of Sign Language discourse have few types of turn-taking, conversational repair, discourse marker, and constructing dialogue and action, cohesion and rhythm, rhyme, and repetition.
Turn-taking has been overlaps, signers, and take turns in conversation. For example, the person signs to another person, when the person finished make it turn-taking how do they know when you see a person sign go down. It's time to turn from person to sign.
