Lister looks into questions about the role of digital photography in realism as the main popular media technology the 1990s, where those who voice concerns about the end of photography, yet it is still the main visual medium of communication because of its privileged status. The realists focus on the significant of photographic images based on whether they represent reality, and the role of technology in producing the image. Lister argues that people need not simply look at photography as a product of technology, since there is ‘hydridness’ and influences of various factors that give meaning to the photographs. As such, considering the context in which the photographic images are produced, and that provide insight on their meaning in a society.
