The picture is influenced by the work of early feminist photographers and contemporary artists. It features a faux-documentary style that is comparable to the works by photographers during the mid-19th century. The photo is inspired by the Buddhist quote, “Who were you, and what did you look like before your parents were born?” (Blache, 1997). The photographer relies on objects and costumes to support the appearance of the image and make the subject seems artificial. She relies on patterned outfits, which act as the background and draw the viewer closer to the fantastical world portrayed in the photograph.
