Asher B. Durand's Thanatopsis (influenced by William Cullen Bryant's "Thanatopsis")
The landscape Thanatopsis was exhibited during the National Academy drama in 1850. The person who has inspired the landscape was Bryant, and there was a catalog that illustrated Bryant's knowledge (Choi, 2018). After the American Art Union possessed the picture, it was distributed to the subscribers. Nonetheless, Durant's father later took the painting back and exchanged it with Gardner. However, Durant continued with Philosophical landscapes that showed the significance of his work after the death of Thomas Cole.
