Ark Encounter Author Name Institution Affiliation The previous week, I got a chance to visit the Ark Encounter, which is a splendid theme park on 1 Ark Encounter Drive (just off Stewartsville Road) in Williamson, Kentucky. This museum houses a larger than life representation of the Noah’s Ark as its major attraction; it is 510 feet long, 51 feet high and 85 feet wide (Bloomfield, 2017). I was completely moved by this gigantic ark as it was much better than my imagination. This museum promotes the Bible’s concepts about the age of Earth and the age of the universe. It has gracefully captured all those details through a scientific way without making anyone bored. Every attraction has so much history and information related to it that one cannot avoid falling in love with this unique experience. Ark Encounter has numerous models of the animals on display which would have been on the Ark with Noah. I was able to have a small conversation with a staff member there, who was very friendly, and some facts about the museum that I learned from him are that the museum has no living animals. It means all are models that are believed to be the earlier generations of today’s animals. There are 183 bays inside the building, which are arranged in 3 decks with each having a height of 85 feet. Each bay has biblical texts and artifacts on display collected by the Green Family, and this collection is named after them, the Green Collection. Another thing the staff member told me is that the Second bay has most animal models on display. In my opinion, the museum tries to capture the essence of Noah’s era and represents the biblical artifacts in their true nature. When the idea of Ark Encounter was pitched to the authorities after making it feasible, it was admired. YEC (Young Earth Creationist), an organization behind this development, received tax incentives not only from the city council but also from the State and County level. These heavy incentives were then used in the construction of the museum. YEC and the government were criticized by some organizations on these incentives. They had a viewpoint that these incentives are taxpayers’ money which was being wasted on such a huge project that had inconsistencies with the Biblical teachings. Despite all this criticism and a mild media campaign against this project, Ark Encounter opened its doors for the public and had a good reception. Ark Encounter is a theme park that mostly has open space with a vessel having a large size of 120,000 square feet. This is the only real structure that is available in the park. As an attraction that has its theme borrowed from the Bible, the architecture has remained as adorable as it is described in the book. The large frame is made up of timber. This structure is sitting on the piers with each 15 feet tall. The designers have used a series of timber bents and have made each bent stand 50 feet tall and 85 feet wide. This is not the first replica of the Ark; it has a very appealing look, and due to its huge size, it gives the perfect feeling of Noah’s time. Ark Encounter is an attraction for everyone. It was never intended to be for religious people only. The idea was to attract tourist from all over the country, and it did. Some records have shown that peop...
