A good example where type 1 error may be preferred to a type 2 error is a medical examination. A type 1 error (false positive) during a medical checkup may cause anxiety to the patient but it will also lead to further tests. The initial test might be proved false after further examination. On the other hand, type 2 error (false negative) provides false assurance to the patient who is probably sick and thus this may lead to further complication since the disease falsely proven negative may persist.
Question six
Z=x-µ/µ/
µ=the population mean
z=z score
x=sample mean
Rejection area
0.5
Unshaded area is the acceptance region while the shaded is the rejection area
µ=75, x=80,µ=20,n=36
z=80-75/20/
z=5/3.333=1.500 checking this from z score table is 0.9332 or 93.32%
This tells us that 97.72% of the population altered the number of steps taken and 100%-93.32%=6.68% is an indication that the population did not alter the number of steps taken
Question seven
Z=x-µ/µ/
µ=the population mean
z=z score, x=sample mean rejction area
0.5
Unshaded area is the acceptance region while shaded area is the rejection area
x=7, µ=6.5, n=49, µ=1.5
z=7-6.5/ (1.5/) =0.071
0.5/0.214285=2.333 checking this from the table we get 0.9901 or 99.01% which shows that 99.01 0f the population was affected by turning off the electronics early affected the number of hours they slept while 100%-99.01=0.99% did not affect.
