Report on Kuali Test Drive

Essay Instructions:

Module 5 - SLP

The changing interaction of finance, information, and technology

You'll probably be relieved to find out that as your project assignment for this module you are not going to be required to investigate Sarbanes-Oxley issues. Rather, you're going to return to the Kuali Foundation and finish experiencing the Kuali test drive. Here's the driver's manual; you should finish scenarios 3 through 7 for Part II of the test drive, and explore any other aspects of the system that you care to. Again, the username 'khuntley' can be used to enter the test drive.

As before, when you have completed your activities here, write a short (2-3 page) report describing what you did during the test drive, your evaluation of the system at this point (now, hopefully, based on more information and experience), and questions that are still in your mind regarding the use of a financial information system such as Kuali.

SLP Assignment Expectations

Use information from the modular background readings as well as any good quality resource you can find. Please cite all sources and provide a reference list at the end of your paper.

LENGTH: 2-3 pages typed and double-spaced.

The following items will be assessed in particular:

  1. Your ability to demonstrate your understanding of additional transaction processing capabilities and benefits of Kuali.

Report on Kuali Test Drive
What I did during the test drive
Scenario 3: Route for Approval – in this scenario, I basically continued what I had started in the previous Scenario 2: Transfer of Funds. In Scenario 2, I carried out a Transfer of Funds eDoc and then submitted it for routing. In this Scenario 3, I routed the eDoc to two KFS users for approval. I impersonated two users who are financial officers – JACOBS, whose ID is FJACOBS, and KOZLOWSKI whose ID is MHKOZLOW – and approved the eDoc.
Scenario 4: General Ledger Balance Inquiry – here, I searched for a General Ledger (GL) Balance entry by Account, Object, and Chart, and went further to see the contents of the eDoc that actually generated it. I started in the Main Menu tab by clicking on the General Ledger Balance in the Balance Inquiries frame. I looked at the General Ledger Entry for the month of October Fiscal Period, and I opened the eDoc that generated this GL Entry. After seeing all I wanted, I closed the browser window.
Scenario 5: Disbursement Voucher – in this scenario, I tackled a Disbursement Voucher eDoc. I began in the Main Menu tab by clicking on Disbursement Voucher in the Transactions frame. I then created a new Disbursement Voucher eDoc; I selected the person I plan to pay and this individual was an employee. I completed the Payment Information tab by entering the payee address, entering a Check Amount, selecting a P-Check/ACH as the Payment Method, and completing the Check Stub Text Field. I then routed the Disbursement Voucher eDoc for Approval and Checked the Route Log.
Scenario 6: Purchase Requisition – during this scenario, I started a new Purchase Requisition and completed the Delivery tab. Next, I added some Items to the Requisition; I entered information in the Add Item line and then clicked Add. I then completed the Requisition by adding the email and phone number of the requestor, before calculating and submitting the Requisition.
Scenario 7: Contracts & Grants Proposal – this scenario was essentially a maintenance...
