It is highly possible that those employees observing occupational fraud in their organization are likely to engage in the fraud themselves (Nawawi & Salin,2018). First, they have a good opportunity to engage in it. Most can access financial information, while others can manipulate accounting records. When an observer sees a colleague or a supervisor engaging in fraud and is not caught or punished, they see it as a good opportunity to do it better. Secondly, the employee may be pressured to commit fraud due to financial needs, desire for personal gain, and motivation when they see others benefiting financially. All that may lure them into committing fraud also to benefit. Thirdly, an employee may rationalize a fraudulent behavior once they see others doing the same and justify their fraud.
