For many years, politics in the US has been greatly impacting the business environment. While Democrats are known to come up with ways to help the community and spending a lot of money while at it, the Republicans have been known as business owners and moguls who are mainly in the political scene to protect their businesses and advance the business environment. They have been identified as investors who appreciate how different regulations hurt the economy. However, this has been changing over time.
Since Donald Trump took over the presidency of the US with a Republican ticket, he has been changing regulations that had been put in place by previous Democratic governments. This is leaving the different businesses susceptible to unforeseen future policy changes and social disfavor. Mostly, the economy does not benefit from these deregulations (Noland, 2018). In fact, the economy is hurting while the only people who stand to benefit are the people who conduct closed-door meetings with Trump. This has left business owners pleading for more regulations in the sector. The following are three examples of different deregulations and how they affect the economy.
Fuel Economy Rules
For decades, automobile companies have been fighting regulations on fuel economy which were only becoming tighter by the day (Stiglitz, 2018). Especially during the Obama government, these regulations were stringent and the companies were begging for a little room. The moment Trump took over the presidency these companies encouraged him to loosen the regulations on fuel economy. However, since Trump has weakened these regulations, auto companies are complaining that they are too weak.
