In your opinion, explain some of the benefits and disadvantages associated with cloud computing that you have experienced.
Cloud computing has become ubiquitous and individuals are using it knowingly and unknowingly. In my opinion, its benefits outweigh its demerits. Cloud computing fosters the flexibility and scalability of resources. For example, during the Covid-19 pandemic, operations of numerous businesses were disrupted due to new measures introduced to curb the spread of the deadly viral disease, such as social distancing. However, companies using cloud computing allowed some employees to work at home as a strategy to decongest their offices. In addition, cloud computing helps firms to save costs, improves workers’ collaboration, accessibility, advanced security, data backup, and restoration, and prevents data loss. In addition, cloud computing improves the Internet speed and reliability of software. For instance, companies can promote the creation of new products or the improvement of existing ones by gathering relevant information from consumers.
On the contrary, cloud computing has several disadvantages. The data stored on virtual databases are vulnerable to hackers and can be stolen if proper data protection measures are not implemented. For example, if the authentication and authorization details fall into the wrong hands, the data on the cloud can be accessed by unauthorized personnel. If such sensitive or intellectual property is leaked to the public, it can have detrimental consequences for a company and its consumers. In addition, the shared technological environment provided by cloud computing improves data vulnerabilities since humans are likely to contribute to security loopholes.
