Information technology is a diverse field with lots of careers and even more adding up with time and improved technology. It is of interest to note that IT is a dynamic field and with the newer technologies, it is becoming inevitably essential in all aspects of human existence and survival – from how we buy stuff, drive, prepare meals and equally important in the field of medicine (Lloyd, 2017). It makes life simple and various processes efficient. As a field, IT has various careers beneath the larger umbrella.
Network administrator
A network administrator is responsible for the management of an organization’s network resources. It is a technical and a skill intensive area because the network administrator has absolute control of an organization’s network, communication and assignment of privileges in the network. This includes security of the organization’s data and the authentication into the network and limiting what can or cannot be accessed. He plays a key role in installation, upgrade and deployment of software and hardware environment required to run organizational networks.
Database administrator
A database administrator, on the other hand, is responsible for the management and monitoring of the organization’s databases while ensuring security of the information, non-repudiation and availability when needed. Basically, they are involved in the database development, storage, security and retrieval. This is an important personnel in organizing data in a way analysts and stakeholders can easily understand. He also ensure that the database and all related applications are efficiently functional.
