Christians believe morality is absolute and objective because they believe in the existence of a personal God who is the ultimate source of morality. In Chapter 7 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook, the authors explain that Christians believe that moral values and duties are rooted in God’s character and are not simply arbitrary rules established by God (Kass, 2003). The Bible provides the primary source of moral guidance for Christians, and they rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the church's teachings to understand and apply biblical principles in their lives.

2 In Chapter 2 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and the Topic 1 Overview, the elements of a worldview (ultimate reality, nature of the universe, humanity, knowledge, ethics, purpose) are presented. In the case you chose, which worldview element is going to be the biggest factor for determining right and wrong in the case you chose? Why?

In the case of Ruth’s pregnancy and the diagnosis of Down syndrome in her baby, the worldview element of ethics is likely to be the biggest factor in determining right and wrong. In the Christian worldview, the moral principles that govern human behavior are grounded in the character and nature of God. Christians believe God created every human being in his image (Kass, 2003). Christians may argue that Ruth should choose to carry her baby to term and trust that God will provide the resources and support she needs to care for her child, regardless of their medical diagnosis.
