Answer the questions and be as detailed as possible.
1) What is the difference between a boulder and an outcrop?
2) What does "difference of erosion" mean?
3) Given the length of the folding layer of an area is 10 footlengths, the straight-line distance is 5 footlengths, the approximate shortening percent of deformation (folding) is 50. What does this tell us?
4) What is the significance between the granite, pegmatite, and the underlying schist?
5) There are grooves parallel to the layers and grooves perpendicular to bedding. What processes caused both sets of grooves? a. Could the perpendicular grooves be due to differential erosion of the layering in the rock? b. Did the grooves form before or after the folding of the rock layering?
6) What types of rock are Manhattan Schist, Hartland schist, and Umpire Rock? Also, how did they get there?
7) Given the direction from which the glaciers may have come to an area is NW, SE or SE, NW. Explain this feature.

What is the difference between a boulder and an outcrop?
A boulder is typically a large rock whose surface has been smoothened out by erosion while an outcrop is an exposure of the bedrock or ancient deposits upon the earth’s surface. Differences between a boulder and an outcrop is that an outcrop is an exposure of the bedrock that is usually static while a boulder is a detached mass of rock and may not necessarily represent the geomorphology of the area it is placed.
What does "difference of erosion" mean? The difference of erosion means that there is a variance in the rate of erosion in a particular sample period that may be attributed to different causes of erosion and the changing weather or landscape forms.
Given the length of the folding layer of an area is 10 foot lengths, the straight-line distance is 5 foot lengths, the approximate shortening percent of deformation (folding) is 50. What does this tell us? Given that the length of the folding layer of the area is 10 foot lengths, the straight line distance being 5 foot lengths and the approximate shortening percent of folding being 50, it depicts that the approximate height of the fold from its tip to the base could be 5 foot-length.
What is the significance between the granite, pegmatite, and the underlying schist? The significance between the granite, pegmatite and the underlying schist is that the presence of granite, pegmatite and the underlying schist in a given area depict that rocks in a given area had been formed by metamorphism. The pegmatite is an igneous rock having basic similar composition as the granite. Schist, on the other hand, is a metamorphic rock having tendency to split into layers composed of different minerals.
There are grooves parallel to the layers and grooves perpendicular to bedding. What processes caused both sets of grooves? a. Could the perpendicular grooves be due to differential erosion of the layering in the rock? b. Did the grooves form before or after the folding of the rock layering? There are grooves parallel to the layers and grooves perpendicular to bedding. The grooves parallel to the layers could have been formed due to differential grain growth. Formation of respective nuclei in the different layers may have contributed to the growth of the grooves. The grooves perpendicular to the bedding have been formed due to differential erosion due to the differences in hardness of the rocks found in the different layers, and they have been formed after the folding of the rock layering.
What types of rock are Manhattan Schist, Hartland schist, and Umpire Rock? Also, how did they get there? The Manhattan Schist is a metamorphic rock consisting of dark, fine-grained layers composed of quartz and white orthoclase. The Hartland s...
