Summary
The chapter by Massey, Durand, and Malone (2002) reveals that migration is a complex issue that is often misunderstood by public officials and citizens. Due to the differences in standards of living and incomes between the US and Mexico, a large number of Mexicans migrate north for better prospects. The costs of migrating to the US, such as adapting to the new culture, finding work, and getting housing might be high, but the benefits offset it.
