1 Is the US Economy Currently in Recession?
Yes. Since COVID-19 hit the country in March, unemployment levels have surged and most businesses have not returned to normal operation. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that in November, the unemployment rate of adult men, teenagers, whites, blacks, Asians, and Hispanics remained unchanged. Also, the number of individuals who lost their permanent jobs stood at 3.7 million. Also, this number was higher than the 2.5 million recorded in February. The number of people who were jobless for more than 27 weeks rose to 3.9 million. As regards to part time workers, the number declined by 779,000. A majority of those seeking full-time jobs during the pandemic were forced to work part-time jobs as the number of working hours reduced. This had an even greater impact on those who work full-time and part-time jobs. As it stands, the unemployment rate in the country is serious. Those who want jobs cannot find jobs. Also, those already working are mainly doing part-time jobs, which means that their wages are significantly lower. Until this situation changes, the country will remain in recession.
