Whether the close and dramatic outcome of the 2000 presidential election makes me more or less likely to vote in future elections
The Republican George W. Bush won the 2000 US presidential election, although the Democrat Al Gore beat him in the popular vote. This election's close and dramatic outcome makes me less likely to vote in the future since politicians wasted a lot of the nation's money and attacked each other instead of dwelling on issue-based campaigns.
Therefore, soft money contributed to the dramatic outcome of the 2000 presidential election. Cain claims that “in the 2000 election, the Republicans spent a total of $691,804,099, and 35% of that was soft money. The Democrats spent $513,059,203, of which 45% was soft money” (16). Politicians spent the money in the most competitive states instead of distributing it evenly across the country. Therefore, the states which overwhelmingly voted for Al Gore received more money and attention from the Democratic party during the campaign. Also, the states that overwhelmingly voted for Bush received more money and attention from the Republican party during the campaign. Additionally, the politicians focused more and pumped much money into the battleground states such as Washington and Florida.
