Social Psychology Social Influence: Norms, Conformity, Compliance, Obedience and Bystander Effect

Coursework Instructions:

Prompt from Social Psychology is below:
Step 1. Pick one of these main topics (conformity, compliance, obedience, helping/bystander effect) and critically analyze it. For example, under what circumstances is it good or ethical? Under what circumstances is it bad or unethical? I'm looking for a careful analysis of the topic, as none of them are black or white subjects.
Step 2. Weave in two terms (and bold them) accurately throughout your analysis. Make sure that the terms you weave in are aiding in your analysis of the topic and not taking you off topic.
For example, you can analyze whether using compliance techniques is ethical and under what circumstances. You can weave in some techniques into your argument/analysis.
For example, you can analyze whether conformity is good or bad in different circumstances. You can weave in normative social influence, informational social influence, public compliance without private acceptance, etc.
For example, you can analyze whether obedience to authority is good or bad in different situations. You can weave in norms, foot-in-the-door-effect, etc.
Notes from me to the writer:
You are welcome to use your own views. I think the lecture notes in the attachment that I included should be enough help for this assignment but just in case it isn't this is the book that we are using in this Social Psychology class.
It's called:
Social Psychology (1st Edition) by Catherine A. Sanderson and the ISBN number is ISBN-13: 978-0471250265.
Chapter 8 on the book is from page 248 to page 287.

Thus, to prevent these tricky situations most of us “conform” to what others are doing. In one way, this is beneficial for the fact that it helps our minds to be relieved of the stress of constantly thinking about what others might think about us. Think about wearing pajamas when going to a funeral wake. In this case not only will the others think that you’re insane, but at the same time, your mind would be burned out thinking what others might think about you....
