2. An anthropologist discovers a group of hunter-gatherers in the Amazon. A linguist colleague urges the anthropologist to unveil the rules of their language. The anthropologist, however, believes this is futile--he does not think these people could possibly rely on rules as they are illiterate. The linguists disagrees.

The student’s knowledge is based on explicit rules and required explicit learning to understand the grammar rules, while tacit knowledge is mostly associated with experience of using the grammar rules. Perception and awareness of language rules influence the use of explicit methods to teach second languages, and this is especially for adults. Implicit language acquisition mostly occurs when there are associations and representations of language when learners are exposed to the language and they may not be aware of this or be able to verbalize (Ellis 114). This differs from the explicit rules where there is awareness and intentionality when using the rules.
The linguist is right, and even as the languages may not be written there are patterns of these languages, which include the phonology, which are the sound features, the morphology that focuses on the forms and structures of the words.
