From this week’s information, I have learned that there are many ways discrimination can happen in the workplace. These forms include gender discrimination, race, sexual harassment as well as ethnic discrimination (Nier & Samuel, 210). It is my responsibility as the manager of my company to ensure that there is zero tolerance of discrimination in the organization.
To ensure that there is no discrimination in my organization, first I will find a qualified attorney to help me prepare policies that discourage discrimination across all the departments. I will start with the hiring process where I will ensure that all applicants have equal chances regardless of their race or gender (Paludi, DeSouza, & Paludi. The applicants will be considered for the job based on their qualifications. The HR team will look into the skills, potentials and ability to fit into our company’s culture. Those who will be found guilty of considering other aspects such as race will face the consequences.
Secondly, as the manager I will arrange for training of all employees on discrimination not only in the work place but other places. The training will help us all in understanding the disadvantages the act has to the society hence discouraging those who have the motives. During the training, all employees will review the company’s policies on discrimination. During the training, they will sign a form showing that they participated in the training. The training will be mandatory and in a quarterly basis.
Besides the training, I will have to encourage all employees across the departments to embrace equality and coordination across the diverse teams in the organizations (Trenerry, Hayley, & Yin).
