Coursework Instructions:

Prompt from Professor:
Read pages 127 through page 202 in Henriquez' The Book of Unknown Americans then complete the following:
There are 3 parts that I want you to answer: first part answer the "Observation", second answer the "Passage" part, and finally answer the "Question" part.
Each part the (Observation, Passage and Question) should each be answered with a minimum of 180 words for at least a total of 2 pages.
* Part 1: Observation: Write a few sentences about something you found interesting or worthy of discussion. It could be something thematic, like its point of view on the American Dream. Or it could be an observation about issues of gender, sexuality, psychology, socioeconomic class, etc. Or, it could be something generally along those lines.
* Part 2: Passage: Look for a quote from the readings of page 127 through 202 of Cristina Henriquez's "The Book of Unknown Americans" that stands out to you for one reason or another then once you find a quote make sure to write the page number and explain as best you can what that reason is that it stands out to you. It might be admiring or critiquing the construction of the language, the idea being discussed, its relevance to some larger concept, etc.
* Part 3: Question: Now I want you to write down a question or two about something you don't quite understand or something on which you just would like other students' perspective.
Again reminder for each of the three parts your answer should be with a minimum of 180 words and a total of 2 pages.
Notes from me to the writer:
• This assignment doesn't require it for it to be answered like an essay but rather just a paragraph for each part.
* The assignment must be done in Times New Roman Font Size 12 with 1 inch margins all around.
• The book I have is the 2014 version of Cristina Henriquez's "The Book of Unknown Americans" with ISBN 978-0-345-80640-6

Part 1: Passage
The most significant and interesting thing in Cristina Henriquez’s “The Book of Unknown Americans” is the life and social status of Mayor’s family. Like many other families in the United States of America (USA), the household discussed in the book is a middle class. Although the individuals had everything they required, it was a luxury for them to get numerous Christmas gifts. Another fascinating thing was when Mayor got into a fight with Garrett. Although Mayor started punching his colleague at the side of the neck, it was unintentional (Henriquez 128). Garrett provoked Mayor by using his girlfriend, Maribel. In particular, it was unbelievable to see how Garrett was pushing the limits of his colleague since he did not know that Mayor was capable of starting a fight. At this juncture, it is clear that anyone can do something unexpected when pressurized. Something else interesting was how Enrique and Mayor feared their dad. For example, when Mayor’s parents went to school, they were informed that their child had been performing poorly. Mayor says that his father entered his room breathing fire. Here, the role of men as discipline masters comes out clearly. Consequently, the entire reading was exciting since it is a reflection of what happens in real life.
Part 2: Observation
“I don’t know if you mean something else by it now. All this taco talk” (Henriquez 137). This quote stood out for me since it portrays how children can use symbolism to communicate among themselves in the presence of their parents. In this particular instance, Mayor did not use “taco” as imag...
