The article covered in this paper is "A Tree Hugger, With a Twist" by Henry Fountain published in May 23, 2011. The article covers the natural environment of Barro Colorado Island, Panama which has been degraded over time. Dr. Stefamn Schnitzer a researcher in the Panama Canal waterway and the tropical forest (Fountain, par 2). The massive logging of the trees has greatly contributed to the degradation of the environment where constant felling of trees has reduced the vegetation cover. Tropical forests are very essential in cleaning the environmental air due to absorption of carbon dioxide; it also contributes to sustenance of the ecosystem with different species depending on it for a livelihood. The forests have also been affected by the problem of invasive species. The Lianas has infested the tropical forest trees and contributed to their extinction stunting their growth and eventually killing them.
