A Music Analysis of March of the Volunteers
Introduction
The song that is the main subject matter of this paper is the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China and was written by a renowned Chinese poetic named as Tian Hian in the year 1934 (World Population Review). The first purpose was to use the lyric poem into a film which did not materialize and was later on made as China’s National Anthem. The next paragraphs will provide an accurate and analytical view of the 5 powerful music elements of SHMRG in terms of the Volume or timbre, Texture and Mode, Register or Phrasing, Tempo or Meter and lastly its development or form. What makes this anthem special is that its lyrics are not similar to other countries in terms of positivity since it is a battle cry which expressed how the Chinese fought during the Japanese war in the early 1930’s. The song has been improved or creatively changed by various performers from a slow marching tempo into an upbeat version such as the artistic change done by Laibach, a Slovenian musical team (World Population Review). As enunciated in the very first line of the lyrics which calls the people of China to arise and never allow themselves to be slaves and goes to the third line stating that they should build the new Great Wall. If focused on the meaning of the lyrics then it is a call for strength, unity and national fervor to protect the country from the onslaught of outside forces.

The Chinese Anthem is played in diminished chords mixed in the minor and major patterns of C-Eb-Gb-A that gives a dangerous and surprising marching sound.
Secondly, H as to the Texture and Mode of sound- the Chinese Anthem is oftentimes accompanied with a gong as a musical instrument that gives a perfect balance of the rhythm being played. The texture of the song gives an urgent and dramatic tone that expresses seriousness and a powerful structure to the marching song. It provides a unique kind of musical tension that is repeated all throughout the song. The texture is obviously polyphonic and accompanied with a medium to high range sounds of the musical instruments.
