The Art Movement Yayoi Kusama Writing Assignment
1. Choose a contemporary (living) artist or designer who uses elements of Pop culture in his/her work.
2. Research his/her life and work and choose 3 pieces to discuss in detail in the paper.
3. In the introduction to the 5-7 page paper, explain why you chose this person.
4. In the main body of the paper describe, discuss, and compare/contrast those 3 pieces, connecting them to elements of Pop culture and to the artist/designer’s career.
5. Links to the 3 pieces or images of them should be included in the paper.
6. In the main body of the paper, also connect your artist/designer with ideas from class readings and/or with earlier Pop artists/designers. (Readings are attached. Please MUST MAKE CONNECTIONS and CITES THEM from readings that I'm attaching!!)
7. In the last part of the paper, come to some conclusions about what this artist/designer has contributed to the contemporary relationship between art and Pop culture.
8. Citations must be used for all information from outside sources, or the paper will not be accepted.
9. The paper must also include a bibliography with a minimum of 5 sources.

Pop art is the art movement that emerged in the 1950s in the United States and the United Kingdom. The new art movement challenged the traditions of fine art by introducing elements from mass and popular culture into art. The additions included mundane cultural objects, comic books, and advertising. The imagery mostly used in modern advertising is a form of pop art. It sought to make use of images found in the popular culture to emphasize the banal aspects of various cultures. It incorporated various styles of paintings and sculptures from different cultures and countries. They all had a common interest in mass production, mass media, and mass culture. This era also coincided with the globalization of youth culture as well as pop music advanced by acts such as the Beatles and Elvis.
