Bullying is one of the most underrated problems facing people all over the world today. Young people who want to connect with their friends on social media, have found themselves in situations where they are dealing with online bullies who appear insensitive to their feelings and age. Suicide cases of teenagers and young adults continue to rise as online bullies continue to find ways to demean others. The bullies strip these social media users of their dignity by either threatening them or sharing confidential information about them. Victims of bullying are said to be incredibly insecure and could showcase psychological symptoms like anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and suicidal ideation (Sansone and Sanson, 2008).
Bullying is perpetuated at the micro level when parents or the community fails to act in ways that curtail bullying. For example, young people who come from families with caring and loving parents will find it easy to go through bullying because the parents will get involved. Parents could take up the issue with the school and find ways to help their child. They could push for more education and sensitization of the students on bullying and its effects. This could help ensure that their child is not only safe from the bullies but also help save other children going through the same thing. However, the disregard or lack of concern by parents as well as schools helps to perpetuate bullying and eventually sentence young boys and girls toward suicidal paths.
