Social Perspectives
There three main perspectives from which to view the social world. This way it is possible to explain and predict the events that take place in the social world. The three main perspectives include functionalist, conflict and the symbolic interactionist perspective. The functionalist perspective relates to different parts of the society functioning together to maintain some element of balance between them. The conflict perspective on the other hand relates to the various parts in the society in a struggle to control the most power and resources (Allen, 2012). This is the opposite of the functionalist perspective. The symbolic interaction on the other hand relates to the way humans react to a situation in light of the definition of the same. Identity of the individual is crucial and it is shaped by the social interactions. The latter is a better fit of explaining the social world, relative to the fact that, people react to different situations differently depending on their identity (Allen, 2012).
When one is faced with a death of a friend, they may view this as an isolated case and feel that it is too hard on them. However, how one interacts with the loss is largely determined on their identity which is affected by their social interactions with the person (Allen, 2012). Some people that are distant to the diseased will not much loss compared to those who were close.
Oil resources have been at the helm of the longest and most brutal struggles of the century. This is relative to the fact that they are a point of power while at the same time a scarce resource. The way that the different countries in the middle east and the west interact with this issue is a clear indication of a conflict perspective.
