Persuasive Speech Peer Review
Alexander Marker
Alexander Marker’s presentation starts with a question to the audience, and this is a great strategy because he starts by getting everyone involved in his presentation as well as provoking discussion. The argument is clearly presented at the start of the speech and Marker makes his stance clear from the beginning to the end. The background information to his presentation is also clear and one can understand why he prefers the $128 pans to the $20 and $50 pants.
Throughout the presentation, Marker maintains a lively tone while also maintaining or keeping eye contact with his audience. His posture, dressing, and awareness of the physical and virtual audience also added to Marker’s great presentation skills. One thing that negatively stood out for Marker was his biasness towards the $128 pants because of his association with the company behind it.
Kevin Moore
Moore’s presentation shows that he has a great sense of the topic at hand, the scope, purpose, and argument. Moore shows a lot of confidence in how he approaches the topic and this is a clear indication that he did his research. He presents the information clearly and takes his audience on a journey while giving a reason after another as to why he chose his position. It is also clear that he understands the game quite well and supplements this by adding examples to his presentation. Throughout the speech, there was a feeling that even a person who does not understand the game could speak about it because of how Moore approached the topic. He starts with the game’s storyline and then proceeds to provide an in-depth review of how the game stands out from the rest. This is a testament to his prowess in organizing the speech and his points that supplement his main argument. However, as outlined below, there are a few things that Moore needs to work on.
First of all, Moore did not try to engage his audience throughout his speech. There were no instances when the audience responded to a question he asked or asked a question. His tone was also not lively but was surprisingly consistent throughout the speech. During the speech, Moore spent a lot of time reading his notes and on the screen. Even though he did make some eye contact, it was not enough and hence the audience’s detachment. Thirdly, Moore also appears to be nervous and this negatively impacts his speech. Overall, the speech achieved its purpose and its use of visuals further enhanced it. With regard to the content, everything felt greatly placed and Moore did a good job in making sure his audience cared about his presentation.
Neasa Murphy
