The world comprises distinct cultures which influence human behavior. For instance, cultures define people’s emotions (Heine, 2020). People from non-Western cultures convey or display different emotions than those from Western cultures. Specifically, how African Americans express their emotions differs significantly from the Asian cultures like the Japanese. Ip et al. (2021) argued that children from non-Western cultures, such as Japanese and Chinese, that foster interdependence are less emotionally expressive than those from Western cultures like American, African-American, and European. In the African-American context, our communities always emphasize collectivism and supportive family structures. Though emotional expression might be increasingly confidential in a family unit, individuals within the culture are more communal and expressive and active in social or religious events and annual celebrations.
