What are social problems & how do Sociologists study them?
Sociologists concentrate on the patterns of group behaviors that individuals share with others in their society and since individuals are likely to conform to the societies behavior then the sociologists can be able to predict, explain and understand the social processes in the future generations permitting these generations to live orderly and predictable lives and sociologists unlike individuals seek to know why things are the way they are or why things are changing. Sociologists focus on groups and examine the pattern of their behavior they also isolate the patterns of conformity in the groups and also seek to understand the effects that people have on the society. Sociologists use experimental procedures in the laboratory where social interactions are controlled and measured. Another methodology used in the investigation of socio issues is deception as it yields rich scientific rewards. In 1971, there were regulations that were made that governed the biomedical research with human beings by the department of Health, Education and Welfare. The use of deceptive methods in the research of socio-psychological experiments was prohibited unless there was permission from the institutional review board. These regulations have led to changes in the methods used for social-psychologists research deception is still used but in limited form and experiments are still used but ones that do not run into resistance.
