Journal of Occupational Health Psychology 10(1), 3-17. The above article by Swanberg and Logan (2005) is an exploratory study that seeks to gather complete information concerning how domestic violence affects the employment of women in the society. Specifically, the study seeks to establish the types of job inferences techniques that are utilized by abusers and their effects on women’s job performance. The study also seeks to identify and comprehend the context associated with disclosure concerning victimization o employers and coworkers and to establish the supports offered to employees after disclosure. The results of the study that are guided by grounded theory show that perpetrators exhibit job inference behavior before, during and after work. The abuser tactics diminish women’s job performance as measured by absenteeism, tardiness, job leavings and termination. In the article, the authors have begun by pointing out that even though the effects of intimate partner violence on women’s physical and mental health on the public health infrastructure has gotten a high level of attention in recent days, very little has been done in terms of examining the effect of intimate partner violence on women’s labor force. According to research, even though economic resources are important in the transition out of abusive relationships, women are at an increased risk of victimization when and possibly because, they seek for employment outside the job or home training. According to estimates from the National Crime and Victimization Survey show that close to 1 million women were victimized in 1998 by an intimate partner in the United States. According to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Justice, intimate partners carry out 13,000 acts of violence against women in the workplace each year. Statistics have further indicated that 70% of the employed victims of domestic violence have been harassed by their partners at the work place.
