1. Andy’s arrival at Shawshank Prison is a sacramental experience because the inmates are already planning on what to do with him, which is considered to be like a welcoming ceremony for him. Like in the sacrament, a person goes through baptism and confirmation. What they decide to do to him will be like the baptism ceremony he will experience because he just arrived at the prison. In addition, he did not choose to be at Shawshank Prison, similar to when a person is baptized at a young age, they do not choose their religion.
2. The word I choose describe Andy and Red’s meeting is cumbersome because of the atmosphere when they met. Both of them only seemed like they just want to talk for company and not to just threaten or intimidate each other like how other prisoners are. Red kept throwing his ball while Andy spoke and they had a calm conversation. The conversation’s purpose does not really have a sole purpose and it was just to start their meeting so they get to know each other better. The others at the prison yard also seem to not mind Andy being there even if he is new.
