RESOURCE BOOKLET- TORONTO-CANADA
Introduction
This resource booklet contains biopsychosocial (BPS) resources that can be used for psychoeducation, prevention, and referral of mental health services in Toronto, Canada. The booklet intends to offer collective and up-to-date information gathered from the organizations and their official websites. It also informs the resources that are available in the community. Patients can access the information in this booklet for therapeutic information.
Anxiety
There are several resources that address anxiety in Toronto, Canada.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)
It offers interventions for anxiety and mood disorders CAMH. (2023). Access is through a referral from a healthcare professional. Their contact is 416-535-8501. In terms of fees, services are covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or other insurance entities.
Anxiety Disorders Association of Ontario (ADAO)
It offers interventions for people dealing with anxiety disorders (ADAO, 2023). These interventions include education, support groups, and resources. Access can be through self-referral. One can contact them through their email: [email protected]. Since ADAO is a non-profit organization, most services are free.
Suicide/Homicide Prevention
Distress Centers of Greater Toronto
The centers offer suicide prevention services around the clock (DCOGT, 2023). Access is available through their helpline (416-408-4357). Their services are free of charge. Apart from their 24-hour helpline, one can contact them through their social media channels.
Domestic Violence
Assaulted Women’s Helpline
It offers interventions for women going through domestic abuse by counseling and educating them (AWH, 2023). Access is available round the clock through their helpline (1-866-863-0511). Most of their services are free. One can contact them through Crisis Services Canada at 1-833-456-4566.
Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic
It offers counseling and legal and interpretative services to women who have been through violence (BSCC, 2023). Access can be through referral by a healthcare professional or self-referral. The services are free but can be sliding-scale based on income. They can be contacted at 416-323-9149.
Child Abuse
BOOST Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (BOOST CYAC)
It offers support to abuse victims, such as assessment, counseling, and court support (BOOST CYAC, 2023). Access can be through referral from a healthcare professional or self-referral. Their services are free. They can be contacted at 1-855-424-1100.
Children’s Aid Society of Toronto
It provides services and support for children and families who have experienced abuse (CAST, 2023). Access starts from a report done to the society. Reporting child abuse and neglect can be done at 416-924-4646. Contact on their toll-free line is at 1-866-527-0833.
Mood-related Disorders
Mood Disorders Association of Ontario
Provides support for families living with bipolar disorders, depression, and anxiety (MDAO, 2023). Access can be through self-referral. The association does not charge for its services. Contact at 1-888-486-8236.
