The Internal Revenue Code refers to Title 26 of the United States' Code enforced by the Internal Revenue Service. A tax code is a legal document that contains rules to be followed when filing taxes to the government. There have been many reforms since the colonist and post-revolution era where most Americans paid excise tax on everything, including real estate and tobacco (Moore & Pecoraro, 2019). I believe the citizens should not be taxed on medical services, groceries, and food. The taxes levied on the citizens were initially meant to clear debts incurred during civil wars, and later, the tax was introduced with Roosevelt's new deal such as social security. All tax issues transformed after the election of President Donald Trump that slashed individual, corporate, and estate tax rates. However, the president's move was criticized by Americans because it favors corporations and billionaires rather than selecting all Americans.
According to section 61(a) of the Internal Revenue Code, gross income is the income from any compensation for services such as fringe benefits, commissions, and school fees. Individual incomes from money, property, or services earned in a tax year are taxable, and every American citizen is required to fill form 1040 of the 2019 Act. The current IRC form does not accurately represent individual net income because it favors corporates and billionaires rather than being inclusive to all Americans (Moore & Pecoraro, 2019). Imposing the national sales tax on citizens may reduce appetite for pursuing an overhaul of the tax system (GASHENKO & ZIMA, 2018).
