1 Poor Success Rate in IT Projects
A successful project is one that attains timely completion of deliverables, never compromising the quality standards, but then within the budget allocated. However, success is never guaranteed at every other moment. Several factors contribute to the failure of IT projects. One of the most predominant reasons is the lack of interest from the management (Taherdoost & Keshavarzsaleh, 2016). On the surface, IT projects appear complicated particularly to the management. This situation leaves the technical team to complete the job all by themselves. Technical teams are incapacitated in understanding the gravity of business objectives and thus, the decisions they make may fail to reflect this factor. Another metric that contributes to failed IT projects is the lack of proper planning (Verner, Sampson, & Cerpa, 2008). Techies tend to be proactive when engaging in a project. In this regard, they could begin a project while lacking a thorough comprehension in terms of the scope and project outcome. This situation paves the way for outright failure in the product because these individuals lack clarity and management of the expectations.
Regardless, there are strategies that these individuals can get involved in to transform their chances of success in related IT projects. One of them is picking the most suitable project manager and ensuring that they are allowed to manage the project. In other words, they should not only the "project reporter" function but also be allowed to execute the “manager” role completely.
