Every company must implement certain organizational changes if it wants to successfully compete. Before Satya Nadella took over as the CEO of Microsoft in 2014, the company was experiencing significant internal problems. There were internal wars between departments, which existed as competitors rather than partners. As a result, the company was heavily dependent on Windows and Office because other forms of innovation were thwarted by a toxic environment. However, Satya Nadella eliminated the existence of Microsoft products and platforms as separate groups. Instead, the company’s old research groups and the AI department were merged with Cortana, Bing, and Information Platform teams. This change successfully brought together engineers and computer scientists to focus on artificial innovation across all Microsoft product lines.
