1 The best model for leadership decisions
The Vroom-Yetton Normative Decision Model would be the best model for leadership decisions. It focuses on involvement in making decisions, unlike the Hersey-Blanchard Situational Leadership Model (SLM), which focuses on the behavior of leaders in different situations. The consideration of employees in decision making is more productive according to research on both models. The Vroom-Yetton Normative Decision Model states that it is essential to consult employees when decision making is needed. This covers other imperative factors in decision making, like employees’ stress. However, the article argues that the leader should not let the ideas of the employees be final; he should analyze them and choose the best, thus using critical thinking concepts for effective decision making. The model thus summarizes all components and shows leaders the styles that will be most effective in different situations.
The model also saves time consumed in making decisions while maintaining order. Consistency is essential, and the model covering it means a long term success in decisions with development. Involving employees makes them more satisfied and productive. This model considers that at times decisions might have less time to prepare, therefore, offering a solution to help in speedy solutions (Jago, & Vroom, 1980).
