They wrote mainly because the century allowed women to cultivate their skills such as singing, writing joc partis, and playing instruments. As a result, they wanted people to feel the power that women held in France.
As compared with other European societies of the 12th century, the Occitan society had no problem with women empowerment. It embraced women and encouraged them to showcase their skills. Additionally, by the end of the 11th century, many Languedoc nobles had taken a crusade to the Holy Land to follow the Counts of Toulouse, their suzerains. Subsequently, women were left behind to be in charge of estate administration, defending castle, and justice dispensation.
