Villanelle Poem
A villanelle poem a strict pattern of poetic form that has nineteen lines. Its pattern of repetition and rhyme scheme are strict (Lipson, 2008). A well-constructed villanelle should have five tercets. That is, a villanelle has five stanzas of three lines each followed by the last one stanza of four lines. The poem takes a pattern in which line one and three of the opening tercet are alternatingly repeating as seen in the last line of each tercet. The two repeated lines compose the last two lines of the whole poem. The rhyme scheme of a villanelle is achieved by ensuring that the repeating lines rhyme (Buchanana, 2010). The second line of every stanza also rhymes.
