Based on a report by the United States Census Bureau (USCB), white older adults have a higher likelihood to vote than individuals from other groups. In particular, voters’ percentage of people above the age of 45 years in 2016 was determined to be more than 65%. The percentage of voters increases with age. For example, the percentage of voters with the age of 65 years and above is over 70% (United States Census Bureau, 2017). Thomas Magstadt argues that white older adults perceive voting as a responsibility. Specifically, these individuals understand that the only way that one can change society positively is by electing effective leaders (Magstadt, 2017).
