Review the information in both texts on organizational design and structures, noticing the similarities and differences in approaches and terminology of the authors in each text.
Think about organizations with which you are familiar. How would you describe the organizational design/structure of these organizations? How do the concepts and terminology from the texts compare with those used in these organizations?

The organizational design that best suits Fabricate-It, Inc. is the functional organizational structure. In this model, departments are created that comprise of specialized work units. The employees with similar skills and knowledge would be placed together, enabling them to grow and develop in their fields. The assembly lines would separate into various functional sections in which teams would work towards a target. In Fabricate-It Company’s case the staff is less educated and for this reason, there is a need to make sure that they attain perfection in the areas that they have an understanding. The grouping of individuals with related skills would make it easier for them to help each other towards achieving the section’s goals and in turn contributing to the organization’s success.
Additionally, it becomes possible to coach the less educated employees helping them advance individually and within the corporation (Johns & Saks, 2008). The superiors in the sections guide the subordinates assisting them to gain the skills and knowledge that they lack and also enhance them. Moreover, training focuses on particular areas, enabling the staff to gain expertise in their fields and have clear objectives that keep them concentrated on achieving the best. As a result, there is improved employee efficiency and speed in performing their duties despite their educational shortcoming. The organization also uses assembly lines in the production of their products, and this means that each step is critical towards the overall success. Specialization is thus crucial for there to be an assurance that each phase produces the desired outcome. However, the primary challenge that the organization might face with the utilization of this structure is the absence of teamwork. The company would have to ensure that their vision is well-defined for everyone in the organization to comprehend what their role is in achieving the overall goal.
In the case of Think-It, Inc. the team-based structure would best suit their situation. In this design, the company would form teams that aim to develop software for a particular customer. The technique involves less management in comparison to other models, and the teams choose what methods would result in the best solutions. The approach ensures that the organization takes advantage of the creativity of their staff by giving them the freedom to maximize their capabilities. According to Godwyn and Gittell (2012), a team-based type of structure allows the project groups to undertake their responsibilities with minimal supervision.
