The definition supplied by Marx and Engels (2002), reveals that globalization is a new form of capitalism that was envisioned several centuries ago (Jackson & Thomas, 2016). The process involves countries moving to economies with ever-changing ways of producing goods and services leading to disruptive economic and social lives. It is what Jackson and Thomas (2016) refer to an extension of capitalism on an international scale. There have been heightened competitive pressures among Canadian corporations resulting from the forces of globalization that have led to the decline of the living standards and general bargaining powers of a majority of Canadian workers. Globalization supports free trade and workers from low-wage countries, such as China, can freely compete for jobs in Canada, thus causing a threat in the local labor market.
