Democracy in America questions Name Institutional Affiliation Q1. The election of 1824 made history for being the only time the House of Representatives selected the president. The corrupt Bargain was a term used by Andrew Jackson to refer to the 1824 elections where John Adams who won the presidency was said to have made a deal with Henry Clay to push for his win in exchange for secretary of state position. It changed American politics by beginning the era of strong Democrat and Republican political parties. Q.2According to the American History, Andrew Jackson won the 1828 elections by having a well organized Democratic Party which enjoyed a lot of support, propelling him to victory in both the popular vote and electoral votes 178 to 83 (American History, 2012). Q.3The economic panic of 1837 was a financial crisis that rocked America because of President Jackson’s economic policies, which created Species Circular and his failure to restore the license of the Second Bank. Great Britain’s limit of credit to the US because of the British depression also contributed to the panic.
