The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) holds significant responsibilities in fighting against international crime, human, and drug trafficking. UNODC was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Vienna, Italy, with 20 field offices. In particular, it educates individuals around the world about the dangers of abusing drugs, human trafficking, and other crimes that are related to drugs. UNODC has introduced various initiatives to foster individuals’ safety globally and prevent crime, such as money laundering. For this reason, the implementation of a global database on people trafficking reports, investigations, arrestee data, known techniques of operation, and patterns of illegal activities would be beneficial to combat international crime.
One of the primary reasons why UNODC was established is to curb human and firearm trafficking and the smuggling of immigrants.
