The initial post is due by 11:59 p.m. EST by Wednesday of the week they are due. The answers to the weekly discussion questions must be substantial, meaning fully answering the question(s) with examples (qualitative) and writing at least 750 words (quantitative). Crime has been one of the most commonly discussed topics over the years. Since most crimes expose other individuals to suffering, governments have been employing various measures to control them. However, even though the government expected these methods to control the crime rates, they have failed to attain the expected results. One of the best ways to help control crime rates is through understanding the factors that increase crime rates. For instance, there has been a high relationship between proprietary places and crime. The four proprietary places that increase crime risk include crime sites, convergent settings, comfort places, and corrupting spots.
In most instances, a crime site is one factor affecting the crime rates. Previously, most people thought that most crimes happened due to mere coincidence. However, various research has proven that few concentrated places are crime sites. For example, even though there are different places where the offenders are likely to choose, they will choose the locations where other offenders have done similar crimes successfully. The best way to identify a crime site is by creating tables having the number of crimes and the address counts. The two policing methods the law enforcers have employed to disrupt the crime sites include problem-solving and focused patrols at the crime sites.
The convergent setting is another factor that plays a critical role in affecting crime. Like the other individuals who socialize, the offenders also have public places to meet. For example, some offenders are likely to meet at the bars where they enjoy themselves. Whenever the offenders meet, they would likely influence each other to continue performing the crimes, which can be worse than before. Furthermore, the users sharing information helps the offenders perform their crimes better. For example, they can offer information about where the targets are located and the best method to attack them. They also inform each other of ways to avoid apprehension, escape the loot and how they would win physical contests or dispose of the stolen goods.
