Health systems tend to provide treatment according to age, gender, race and an individual's stage of life. Stages of life or the life cycle include trust vs mistrust, autonomy vs shame, imitative vs guilt, industry vs inferiority, identity vs role confusion, intimacy vs isolation, generatively vs stagnation and integrity vs despair Erikson (1994).
Health care professionals have been known to discriminate against the elderly and old people. Health care providers tend to portray a negative attitude when it comes to old people seeking treatment. For instance, Lookinland and Anson (1995) explain that registered nurses and high school children aspiring to be nurses have negative and conventional beliefs stipulated against the aging population. This means that interaction between aging patients and medical providers. Being a patient of less than 10 years I feel that my interaction and that of health care providers was positive towards my treatment and being cured thus my stage of life influenced this interaction. A child at this age is at the initiative vs guilt stage and plays a lot and the behavior may seem aggressive to parents (Erickson, 1994).
The patient being a child received special care from the pediatrician department who monitored the child's behavior throughout her stay in the hospital. The nurses in that part of the hospital were present on the first ring of the ward alarm for a patient. They also monitored how the kid was fairing, especially whether she was getting better than how she was brought in the hospital.
