1 What is the purpose of this research?
The researchers sought to determine how gait and balance among elderly patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) influence the risk of fall that is independent from ageing. The authors then used limit of balance (LOS) and dynamic balance as balance measurements.

The study was a correlational research where the study participants were matched in the three groups where gait and balance was evaluated for elderly patients with and without dementia and the relation of this related to patient fall. Both gait and balance assessments were carried out for the 24 participants divided into groups of eight
4 What is the population (sample) for this study.
The sample included twenty four male subjects ranging from 50-70 years of age and they were divided into groups depending on whether they were diagnosed with FTD or AD. These patients were recruited from the Outpatient Department of Neurology and Geriatric Clinic, while the controls were obtained from the community (Velayutham et al., 2017). The researchers collected demographic data on the patients, including age, height, weight and gender.

The sample approach was appropriate as it compared the AD, FTD and controls as the study focused on gait and balance assessment to determine abnormalities in those with dementia. Differences were noted to understand how dementia was associated with the risk of patient fall.
