Accordingly, creating a good lesson plan for implementing Evidence-based practices requires a careful understanding of the needs of the patient and the daily realities of the practice. The lesson plan should include well-research information and in-depth knowledge about how to deal with different situations. In this article, the author would discuss a lesson plan aiming to understand the differences in effects between chlorhexidine baths and the use of soap and water to prevent CAUTI. This includes the setting, population, and other strategies that can be used in order to reach one's aim in teaching.
Practicum Setting and Population
The practicum setting for this lesson plan is at an Intensive Care Unit in the Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, United States. The main focus for this lesson plan is undergraduate nursing students, whereas the focus for treatment in patients who are given urinary catheters and are confined in an intensive care unit for at least one week. The author decided to focus on ICU patients because this population are at higher risk for CAUTI as compared to other types of patients in the hospital setting (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). Thus, it is essential to be able to reduce the cases of CAUTIs in order to improve the provision of care and reduce costs on both the part of the patient and the healthcare provider (Mitchell et al., 2016).
